This is final post part one out of two parts. So in this post I will be telling you the reader about greek athletes and their lives. First of all you may be thinking their athletes there so cool but not everyone in Greece loved athletes. A lot of people said that you should not judge someone by their strength you should judge them by their wisdom. People also said that athletes sleep, eat, and put their bodies through to much. As crazy as this sounds there were "haters" in ancient Greece. Moving forward athletes had special trainers in ancient Greece to help them. This training was led by a man named Hellanodikai. Greek athlete training was not like oh whatever i'll win for sure, the athletes trained super seriously. The athletes had to swear on oath that they trained for ten months and the athletes had to be there a month before the games began. If you were an athlete who did not come a month before, you were disqualified and could not participate in the games. The athletes also had many facilities. As well as having a stadium and hippodrome which is a horse track used for some events. The most important facilities were the swimming pool and bath. The athletes also had a palaistra which is a large square building for training in jumping and fighting events and of course a gym. There were no swimming races in the events so the swimming pool was for recreation. The athletes also had what is a modern day sauna and of course a bath to bath after exercise. The athletes most importantly participated in the events. I will tell you more about those events in my final post part two.
